Split 7" EP with Converge coming soon

Legendary bands Converge and Napalm Death have come together for a split release, bridging the worlds of personal and politically driven extreme music.
Recorded as part of their new album sessions, Converge offer up the blazing new song "No Light Escapes". Already a staple of their live set, this whirlwind of an emotional charged song is a soon to be a discordant hardcore/metal anthem for the band. Also on the release, Converge offer a "We Are The World" styled rendition of the influential Entombed classic "Wolverine Blues". Joining them in tribute is a number of friends including Tomas Lindberg (Disfear, At The Gates, Lock Up), Aaron Turner (Isis, Old Man Gloom, Split Cranium), Kevin Baker (APMD, The Hope Conspiracy), Brian Izzi (Trap Them), and more. A new Converge album will surface later in 2012 on Epitaph/Deathwish.
On the flip side, metal pioneers Napalm Death offer up two new aural monsters. First, "Will By Mouth" erupts in classic grind fashion. A buzz of brutal guitars and a crushing blast beat lay a foundation for Barney Greenway's vicious vocal attack. All of it uniquely bleeding together to paint a vivid picture of social unrest. Also on the release, Napalm Death offer the slower and textural new song "No Impediment To Triumph (Bhopal)". A deeply resonant number that lyrically sheds light on the horrific Bhopal Gas Tragedy of 1984. Without question, "No Impediment…" is truly a powerful and poignant moment for this legendary band.
Split 7" EP will be self released by Converge and Napalm Death, exclusively Distributed by Deathwish Direct.

Scum re-releases

SCUM, the classic 1987 debut album from grindcore pioneers NAPALM DEATH, is due to be re-released on limited edition redux CD and coloured vinyl LP on March 5th.

To celebrate 25 years since the release of the most influential grindcore album ever made, SCUM has been remastered especially for this release from the original tapes with C (FDR), allowing the music's nuances to shine through and giving the whole album a more ferocious and dynamic sound than ever before, and enabling the listener to immerse in the full audio chaos like never before.

Original NAPALM DEATH guitarist and founding member MICK HARRIS states: "It sounds wicked - that record still holds up today and I'm proud I was part of it."

The limited edition SCUM CD comes housed in a digipak sleeve and includes the previously unreleased rough mix of the entire album as a bonus, complete with original ad libs and intros from the studio and an alternate version of the title track. The collector's LP version is available in the following quantities and colours:

The result is likely one of the most diverse tribute compilations ever: covers, remixes, remakes and extremely personal interpretations of what 'You Suffer' means to the artists, covering genres like spoken word, acoustic, noise, drone, dark ambient, dance, punk, circuit bend, grind, doom, scream, what have you. NAPALM DEATH – Leaders of the extreme, genre founders and one of the hardest working/touring bands out there, legendary NAPALM DEATH, are currently giving the final touch to their 14th studio album (excluding the cover album “Leaders Not Followers). The new piece of brutality is named “Utilitarian” and hits stores on February 27th (USA February 28th) 2012, via the bands long time partner Century Media Records. The cover artwork perfectly fits the album theme and was done by the Danish artist Frode Sylthe, who also signed responsible for The Haunted`s amazing “Revolver” artwork.

Singer Mark “Barney” Greenway explains about the album title and concept: "After some deliberation, we have decided on “Utilitarian” as the album title. We generally try to avoid generic titles, and this seemed to have a lot of scope to it. I won't explain the full meaning of Utilitarianism here because it's an ethical theory, and as ethical theories go, the depth and debate around it is quite heavy at times. It has a certain 'morality' aspect to it and that isn't something that drives me, so I also certainly have issues with it. So, rather than just nail that straight to the mast, of course we wanted to put our own spin on it by suggesting that those (i.e. the utilitarian in us, perhaps) who try to challenge everything, or fight against conventions, well, we go through periods of real self-doubt where we wonder if we're really making a difference. I suppose the conclusion is that, for the sake of all our freedoms, you should never stop, as even the feeling of resistance is at least a signal to those who would like to entirely control and dominate us – meaning everything from our instinctive behavior to our human entitlement to walk the earth unprovoked. Regarding the album overall, the final creases should be ironed out fairly soon, and immediately after that we thought it would be good to top it off with a few UK dates. We’ve been playing one new song (“Quarantined”) out on a tour of Canada and it’s been well received, so we hope to perhaps throw in another one for now. Either way, we’ll be bouncing off the walls again near you very soon. Cheers all.”

Re-sign worldwide deal with Century Media Records!

Century Media Records have renewed their deal with British grindcore legend NAPALM DEATH who has wrapped up the recordings of its yet untitled 14th studio album earlier this year at Parlour Studio in Kettering, UK with longtime producer Russ Russell.

Jens Prüter, Head of A&R / Century Media Records Europe states:

“NAPALM DEATH is not only one of the most important and influential extreme metal bands, they are also a band that always raises their voice against social ills – and even against record companies (remember “Enemy Of Music Business”).
